Hark the Sound/TAG (I’m a Tar Heel Born…)

Hark the Sound is a UNC fight song written by William Starr Myers in 1897.

TAG (I’m a Tar Heel Born…) originated as an addition to Hark The Sound in the late 1890s and early 1900s, sung (probably first) at a 1903 baseball game against Brown University.

Here are lyrics of Hark the Sound/TAG (I'm a Tar Heel Born…).

The lyrics of TAG (I'm a Tar Heel Born…) are in the following verse (from "I'm a Tar Heel born I'm a Tar Heel bred" to "RAH! RAH! RAH!").

1. Hark the sound of Tar Heel voices

Ringing clear and True

Singing Carolina's praises

Shouting N.C.U.

Hail to the brightest Star of all

Clear its radiance shine

Carolina priceless gem,

Receive all praises thine.

I'm a Tar Heel born I'm a Tar Heel bred

And when I die I'm a Tar Heel dead.

So it's RAH, RAH, Car'lina 'lina

RAH, RAH, Car'lina 'lina

RAH, RAH, Car'lina

RAH! RAH! RAH!

2. 'Neath the oaks the sons true hearted

Homage pay to thee

Time worn walls give back their echo

Hail to U.N.C.

3. Though the storms of life assail us

Still our hearts beat true

Naught can break the friendships formed at

Dear old N.C.U.

We hail from NCU

We've got the team to win it,

We wear the colors white and blue.

So it's fight, fight, fight for Carolina

As Davie did in days of old;

As we rally round the Well,

Cheer that Tar Heel team like hell,

For the glory of NCU.

Carolina Loyalty Song

Carolina Loyalty Song is a UNC fight song written by Joel Carter.

NOTE: The year of Carolina Loyalty Song is unknown.

Here are lyrics of Carolina Loyalty Song.

1. As Carolina's Sons, We raise

our thankful hearts and voices high

For all sweet things that tongue can praise

are gather'd underneath the Sky

When fame or fortune finds us where

We clasp the hand of friendship true

Her loyal Sons will breathe a prayer

For Carolina and the Blue.

2. For noble conduct on the field

For wisdom nurtured in thy halls

For high ideals and fruitful yield

For friendships made within thy walls

We shall not fail to honor thee

And cherish all the memories dear

That bind our hearts more fervently

To Carolina year by year.

3. When we who sing can sing no more

When classmates, too, are gone at last

We'll meet upon that other shore

To sing the praises of the past

Fair Carolina's fame will tell

Wherever men of honor dwell

Yes Carolina's fame will tell

Wherever men of honor dwell.
