NOTE: The reason for The Quay is an abbreviation of Fuquay in Fuquay-Varina. For your information, "quay" means "wharf," but we don't think it has anything to do with Fuquay-Varina because it is not a coastal town.
Fuquay-Varina is part of Research Triangle Park, which includes Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham.
The unique name of Fuquay-Varina comes from the combination of the two towns of Fuquay Springs and Varina, which merged in 1963 to form what is now Fuquay-Varina.

Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park is a 20 acres park donated to Fuquay-Varina in 1992 by the late Mayor Alfred Johnson and his wife Carroll Howard Johnson.
In 1998, Horace Tart donated 8 acres and the park was expanded to its current size of 28 acres.
