Fuquay-Varina is a town called "The Quay", southwest of Raleigh (state capital of North Carolina).

NOTE: The reason for The Quay is an abbreviation of Fuquay in Fuquay-Varina. For your information, "quay" means "wharf," but we don't think it has anything to do with Fuquay-Varina because it is not a coastal town.

Fuquay-Varina is part of Research Triangle Park, which includes Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham.

The unique name of Fuquay-Varina comes from the combination of the two towns of Fuquay Springs and Varina, which merged in 1963 to form what is now Fuquay-Varina.

Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park

Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park is a 20 acres park donated to Fuquay-Varina in 1992 by the late Mayor Alfred Johnson and his wife Carroll Howard Johnson.

In 1998, Horace Tart donated 8 acres and the park was expanded to its current size of 28 acres.

Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park is focused on environmental education and nature.

Visitors can stroll along a 2 miles (3km) nature trail, cross beautiful overlooks and natural bridges, and discover the splendor of the Fuquay-Varina woodlands, the local flora and fauna, and the many species of birds that inhabit the paths.

Fuquay Mineral Spring Park

Fuquay Mineral Spring Park was discovered by Davy Crockett Fuquay and Stephen Fuquay in the spring of 1858 while farming on their father's farm.

Believed to have healing powers, Fuquay Mineral Spring Park attracted visitors from far and wide to drink from the mineral springs.

Located near downtown Fuquay-Varina, Fuquay Mineral Spring Park is an easily accessible open space with a restored spring house, a memorial brick road, picnic tables, a footbridge, administrative offices, and manicured gardens.
