UNC Memorial Win over Duke

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's (UNC's) memorial win over rival Duke University is shown.

January 24, 1920: UNC 36-25 Duke University

In the first memorable rivalry match on January 24, 1920, UNC defeated Duke University 36-25.

March 5, 1921: UNC 55-18 Duke University

In a game on March 5, 1921, UNC defeated Duke University 55-18.

The 37-point victory is currently the highest scoring margin.

March 25, 1971: UNC 73-67 Duke University

In the semifinals of the NIT Tournament on March 25, 1971, UNC survived against Duke University 73-67.

NOTE: In the NIT Tournament final, UNC defeated Georgia Tech 84-66 to win the NIT Tournament!

March 2, 1974: UNC 96-92 vs. Duke University

On March 2, 1974, UNC defeated Duke University 96-92 in overtime.

The game was almost decidedly lost by 8 points with 17 seconds left in the second half, but it was a miraculous comeback victory.

December 5, 1980: UNC 78-76 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 78-76 in a game played on December 5, 1980.

UNC's James Worthy had 26 points and 9 rebounds.

January 22, 1983: UNC 103-82 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 103-82 in a game played on January 22, 1983.

Michael Jordan scored 32 points in that game.

March 3, 1984: UNC 96-83 Duke University

In a game played on March 3, 1984, UNC defeated Duke University 96-83 after double overtime.

It was the last game at home for Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins.

It was the UNC men's basketball team's first game & first win at the Dean Smith Center stadium.

March 12, 1989: UNC 77-74 Duke University

In the final of the ACC Tournament on March 12, 1989, UNC won the championship with a 77-74 victory over Duke University.

February 5, 1992: UNC 75-73 Duke University

In a game played on February 5, 1992, UNC defeated Duke University 75-73.

Hubert Davis had 16 points and Eric Montross had 12 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

February 2, 1995: UNC 102-100 vs. Duke University

In a game played on February 2, 1995, UNC defeated Duke University 102-100 after double overtime.

Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace each scored 25 points (50 total).

Donald Williams had 24 points.

January 31, 1996: UNC 73-72 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 73-72 in a game played on January 31, 1996.

Down 71-72, Dante Calabria (#24) made a comeback shot with 6.5 seconds left in the second half to win 73-72 (1:48:04).

February 5, 1998: UNC 97-73 Duke University

In a game on February 5, 1998, UNC dominated Duke University 97-73.

This was a huge win by a margin of 24 points!

March 8, 1998: UNC 83-68 Duke University

UNC won the final of the ACC Tournament on March 8, 1998 with an 83-68 victory over Duke University.

Antawn Jamison (#33) had 22 points and 18 rebounds, and Vince Carter (#15) scored 16 points.

March 6, 2005: UNC 75-73 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 75-73 in a game played on March 6, 2005.

Sean May (#42) had 26 points and 24 rebounds.

March 4, 2006: UNC 83-76 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 83-76 in a game played on March 4, 2006.

Tyler Hansbrough (#50) had 27 points.

March 4, 2007: UNC 86-72 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 86-72 in a game played on March 4, 2007.

Tyler Hansbrough (#50) was famously hit in the nose with 14.5 seconds left in the second half by Duke's Gerald Henderson Jr. with a right elbow to the nose, causing a nosebleed.

This is the scene on Franklin Street (a main street in Chapel Hill) after UNC's win over Duke University. UNC fans are very excited.

February 11, 2009: UNC 101-87 Duke University

In a game played on February 11, 2009, UNC defeated Duke University 101-87.

Tyler Hansbrough (#50) and Danny Green (#14) are 4-0 on Duke's home court at Cameron Indoor Stadium (winning for the fourth straight year)!

March 3, 2012: UNC 88-70 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 88-70 in a game played on March 3, 2012.

UNC clinched the ACC regular season title and the #1 seed.

Kendall Marshall (#5) had 20 points and 10 assists, Tyler Zeller (#44) had 19 points, Harrison Barnes (#40) had 16 points, John Henson (#31) had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Reggie Bullock (#35) had 12 points, and James Michael McAdoo (#43) had 6 points.

March 4, 2017: UNC 90-83 Duke University

In a game on March 4, 2017, UNC defeated Duke University 90-83.

Joel Berry II scored 28 points and Justin Jackson had 15 points for UNC.

Michael Jordan was also on hand to cheer on UNC (1:26:55).

February 20, 2019: UNC 88-72 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 88-72 in a game on February 20, 2019.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama came to watch the game.

There was also an incident in which the Nike bash worn by Zion Williamson (#1) of Duke University broke (6:00).

Nike's stock price dropped about 1% from the previous day due to this incident.

The market value of Nike's stock at that time was about 1.1 billion dollars. That's terrible….

March 6, 2021: UNC 91-73 Duke University

In a game on March 6, 2021, UNC defeated Duke University 91-73.

The team also won the February 6, 2021 game, 91-87, to sweep the regular season.

March 5, 2022: UNC 94-81 Duke University

UNC defeated Duke University 94-81.

Armando Bacot had 23 points and 7 rebounds, Caleb Love had 22 points, R. J. Davis had 21 points, and Brady Manek had 20 points.

UNC won Duke coach "Coach K's" last home game!

April 2, 2022: UNC 81-77 Duke University

UNC outlasted Duke University 81-77 in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.

This was the first meeting between UNC and Duke in the NCAA Tournament, and UNC came out on top.

Awesome!

NOTE: In the NCAA Tournament final, UNC lost Kansas University 69-72.

This was Coach K's last game at Duke University. Thank you for your hard work.
