This article describes AI chatbots and Large Language Models (LLMs) often used in AI chatbots.

GPT (OpenAI)

GPT is a LLM developed by OpenAI.

OpenAI was founded in December 2015, and is led by Elon Musk and other influential businessmen and investors.

NOTE: Elon Musk withdrew from OpenAI in February 2019.

On January 23, 2023, Microsoft announced that it will invest billions of dollars more in OpenAI over the next few years (the third investment following 2019 and 2021).

We can expect great things from OpenAI in the years to come!

The versions of GPT are as follows.

Articles explaining GPT are as follows.

Explanatory videos of GPT are shown below.

The following is a list of tools that use GPT.

LaMDA, PaLM (Google)

LaMDA and PaLM are large-scale language models developed by Google.

  • LaMDA: LLM for conversation
  • PaLM: LLM for general-purpose (e.g. commonsense reasoning, arithmetic reasoning, joke explanation, code generation, and translation)

LaMDA is based on Transformer, a deep learning model developed by Google in 2017.

In 2018, Google developed BERT, a machine learning method based on Transformer, an evolution of which is LaMDA.

*For reference, GPT is based on Transformer.

The versions of LaMDA are as follows.

  • 2021: Release of LaMDA
  • 2022: Release of LaMDA2

Click the following to watch videos explaining LaMDA.

PaLM can perform a wide range of tasks, e.g., commonsense reasoning, arithmetic reasoning, joke explanation, code generation, and translation.

Wordcraft

Wordcraft is a tool for writing stories using LaMDA.

A video of Wordcraft is below.

Gemini (formerly Bard)

Gemini (formerly Bard) is an AI chatbot developed by Google.

Claude (Anthropic)

Claude is an AI chatbot developed by Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI members.

Claude features support for 100,000 tokens (more than three times as many as OpenAI's GPT-4's approximately 32,000 tokens) and the ability to input long sentences.

BLOOM (BigScience)

BLOOM is a large-scale language model developed by BigScience.

Explanatory videos of BLOOM are shown below.

Ernie Bot (Baidu)

Ernie Bot is an AI chatbot developed by Baidu.

YouChat (You.com)

YouChat is an AI chatbot with a privacy-preserving search engine.

Unlike conventional search engines that only display a list of Web search results, YouChat summarizes search results based on Website categories.

Perplexity.ai is an AI chatbot with a search engine that provides accurate answers to complex questions using a large-scale language model.

The feature of Perplexity.ai is that the source of the information is displayed along with the answer (like a bibliography of a paper).

This allows users to scrutinize the content with consideration of the reliability of the information source.

Grok (xAI)

Grok is a large-scale language model developed by xAI.

Grok is available as open source on GitHub.
